When seconds count...you want a team you can trust.
The J.Thomas McCarthy Center for Emergency Services at California Hospital is the only full service, 24 hour emergency department in Downtown Los Angeles.
Each year, sixteen thousand patients receive care in Los Angeles County trauma centers. California hospital's trauma program is designed to take advantage of the golden hour -- the 60 critical minutes when life hangs in the balance. This can mean the difference between life and death -- or a full recovery.
This level II facility provides a full range of medical procedures 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Trauma surgeons, anesthesiologists and specialists are on-site, or are available within 15 minutes at all times.
- Advanced Ancillary services such as MRIs and CT scans enable doctors and radiologists to see results in less that 14 seconds. In addition, physicians in the emergency department are able to read the results simultaneously as they do in the radiology unit.
- 8 new surgical intensive care suites have been added to accommodate trauma patients.
- The surgical intensive care unit is among the most sophisticated in the hospital. Respiratory equipment, warming blankets, rapid infusers and beds that can be programmed to turn patients automatically, all help to ensure positive outcomes.
But none of these are as crucial as the care and compassion a warm hand and a friendly voice can give. At California Hospital it is standard practice to involve families in the patient's recovery plan.
