Intensive care is specialized medical and nursing care provided to patients facing life-threatening illness or injury. About 80% of all Americans will experience critical care services either as a patient, family member or friend during their lifetime.

Some examples of illnesses requiring critical care services include heart attack, trauma cases, poisoning, surgical complications, premature birth and strokes.

At California Hospital Medical Center, our intensive care units rely on a mult-specialty approach to care. Health care providers from different medical disciplines work together to provide collaborative and coordinated care specific to the patient’s needs.

California Hospital has several intensive care units: Intensive and Coronary Care Unit (ICU and CCU), Surgical Intensive Care Unit and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
